Apprenticeship Program

History

Vines Collier, Chris and Jeff Davoud’s grandfather, started the program in 1985 with the goal to build the highest skilled and safest workforce possible. Chris Davoud proudly took over the program in 1998. The program has since seen over 50 apprentices earn their journeymen certifications. We are proud to have one of the few non-union Apprenticeship Programs in the state of Virginia. This program stems from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), a not-for-profit educational foundation. The ODI Apprenticeship program is approved and validated by the Virginia Department of Labor to meet national quality standards and we partner with the Association of Builders and Contractors of Virginia (ABC VA) to deliver the official journeyman qualification.

Graduating to become a certified journeyman consists of 8,000 hours of field work and 600 hours in the classroom over the span of 4 years. This is to obtain a well-rounded exposure to the trade. In result, our journeyman are more productive, work more safely, and deliver quality craftsmanship that is done right the first time. Our journeymen are some of the top skilled and most knowledgeable insulators in the nation and our highly skilled workforce developed through this program exemplifies Old Dominion Insulation’s quality work.  Ultimately, Our field team’s attention to detail and determination to constantly improve is what leads to ODI being one of the nation’s leading insulation contractors.

“ ODG has the highest quality and the safest craftsmen across the board”

Instructors:

Darwin Linares and Felix Martinez, our program instructors, together have over 20 years of experience and knowledge in the insulation industry. Darwin and Felix are dedicated to directing our apprentices through the four year program. They provide support and instruction through the course modules and hands-on training to help our apprentices progress to become journeymen. Both Darwin and Felix are two of our top performing foreman from our Northern Virginia branch.

Darwin Linares joined ODI in early 2014 and was eager to learn. In March of 2015, he registered for the apprenticeship program. Through time and with more experience and help form his mentors, he became a certified Journeyman and soon after received his certification as a bilingual apprenticeship instructor for our northern Virginia, Richmond, and Virginia Beach students. Darwin says, “I love this program because it gives me the opportunity to share my knowledge with the new ODG team members and give them the experiences they need so they can graduate to become certified journeymen. Currently, I am blessed to have the opportunity of working as a foremen for the Northern Virginia branch. There are no words of gratitude that are able to express what this program means to me.”

Felix Martinez joined the ODI team in 2009. He claims that he quickly realized that he was working with one of the best companies in the industry and that he could see himself improving his skills. Felix joined the apprenticeship program in 2022 as a certified program instructor. Felix shares, “The program is excellent and has given me the opportunity to grow and teach others who like me, are looking to build a career and a good future for their families. I like it because through the program they can develop knowledge in what they do, do their work with excellence and be an example for others.”
